Nicholas Galinski - Worldbuilder & Narrative Game Designer

Everland

A social MMO Project

INFO

Everland is the hope and dream of World of Warcraft and twitch legend, Byron "Reckful" Bernstein. Unfortunately, due to the tragic loss of Byron, Everland is currently on hold while the best and most respectful method of proceeding is determined. The website was formerly up at playeverland.com, however as of 9/8/2020 it is not being maintained.

The Steam store page for the stress test is still available.

Reckful streamed the stress test, which did not contain story or quests, but showcases my impact on creative direction.

MY ROLE

With Everland in legal limbo, I am unable to share specific examples of my work, but I can discuss what my role was and how it evolved.

I was approached by Byron to create lore for Everland and build the background story of the world. My opening project was to build story and background for a pirate-themed zone. From there, I became a contract worker as the “Lore Writer” of the project and participated regularly in design meetings for the first three months.

My contributions to the design team earned me a full-time place in the company as my skills in game design were recognized by my team lead. I was able to flex into multiple design roles, helping with design of interiors, mini-games, gathering, and crafting systems.

My core responsibility remained as Everland’s world builder and narrative designer. I created all of the game’s lore, created NPCs both fictional and based on real-world social media influencers, wrote dialogue, and created interactables with lore drops. In my role, I had a major impact on the game’s creative direction.

I worked very closely with the art team and created art briefs for them to build interiors or draw and animate NPCs with. I also utilized tools in Unity to implement some of my designs.

I became an integral part of the team and began participating in lead meetings, core team meetings, and design meetings. In addition to my design work, I also wrote copy for fund raising campaigns and spearheaded the website’s developer blog.

With production currently paused, I would like to bring the skills I brought to my role at Everland to a new team.
